WhatsApp, one of the world's most popular instant messaging applications, frequently introduces new features. While some of these make much-needed modifications to the app's quality of life, many of them provide new features. From sharing HD photographs to group audio conversations similar to Discord, here are some of the latest WhatsApp features that might boost your productivity and overall user experience.
Video calls with screen sharing
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed earlier this month the option to share the screen during a video conference. Users may effortlessly share their screen with others using the new capability, regardless of platform. It is quite useful if you want to display something on your screen but do not want to use apps like Google.
Send high-quality images
While WhatsApp is the favored communication medium for billions, it did not allow users to transmit HD photographs until recently. This was extremely inconvenient because users had to rely on third-party solutions to transfer photographs.
However, in a recent upgrade, the instant messaging platform included the ability to send photographs in HD and stated that it would soon add the ability to share films in HD as well.
To send images in HD, open a chat and choose the photo you want to share. On the photo-sharing screen, tap on the ‘HD’ button that appears on the top bar and you are good to go. One thing to note here is by default, WhatsApp sends compressed images, so you will have to tap on the button every time you want to send photos in HD.
Voice chats in groups
Similar to Discord’s voice chat and Twitter Spaces, WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature called ‘Voice chats’ for those who want to talk to others in a group.
While WhatsApp's group call tool rang the entire group, the new 'Voice conversations' option provides a silent notification. Unlike 'group calls,' which require you to add participants manually, the new feature allows you to join and exit the call whenever you choose.
It is useful if you do not want to bother people and wish to converse with group members. When a 'voice conversation' is initiated, the group symbol changes to a waveform icon with a 'Connect' button.
Captions for transmitted media should be edited.
Have you ever uploaded a media file on WhatsApp only to discover that the caption was incorrect or had typos? Instead of needing to provide media captions individually or resend the media file, WhatsApp now allows you to edit media captions. The tool works similarly to the messaging app's 'Edit message' feature, which allows you to edit messages up to 15 minutes after they are delivered.
To edit media captions after they are sent, tap on the media message with caption and you will see an ‘Edit’ button similar to how it looks when editing text messages.
Make groups with no names.
Yesterday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced a new WhatsApp experience that allows users to instantly establish groups without having to name them. Instead of requiring users to manually name groups, WhatsApp will name groups with up to 6 participants based on the people in the group.
If someone who is not on your contact list joins the group, they will only be able to view your phone number, according to the business. Names in the group will also be pulled from your contact list.
