How to control excessive emotions
There is no human without emotions. But excessive emotions sometimes become the cause of damage to oneself and the people around oneself. There are some psychological techniques to control excessive emotions.
Joy, sadness, anger, frustration, fear, there are the emotions that make us a real person. There is no human without emotions. But not everyone has the same amount of emotions. Often we do not allow mocking or mock the feelings of emotional people. But this emotion is very important in building our relationships.
Besides, we have to resort to our emotions to make our daily life easier, to take necessary action when we sense danger, to adapt to adverse environment. Intelligence and pragmatism cannot solve everything
But the reality is, if emotions are not controlled, the results can be counterproductive. As humans are advanced animals, our cerebral cortex is more mature than other animals.
As a result, we react based on the situation rather than just relying on feelings like happiness, fear, anger-etc. This quality of ours is called 'Emotional Intelligence'. But even with emotional intelligence, it is still possible to make decisions based on the excess of one's primary emotions. Especially in the case of those whom we call passionate people.
If you notice, there are many people around us, who do a lot of things just based on emotions without considering the situation, which later turns out to bad for them. The number of people who tried to bring control over anger and failed, is not less. But if you can practice controlling your emotions, you can avoid many undesirable events. And best of all, you can save yourself from suffering. Psychologists say, for this, a few things must be practiced very consciously-
1. Practice creating emotional distance
The first thing we think of doing in any situation is to follow our immediate urges. But in this way too much love or affection for someone and on the other hand the sudden decisions taken in the head of frustration or anger only make us suffer later.
So, avoid taking any sudden decision in any complicated or difficult situation. Try to relax your mind by creating mental distance with the concerned person. This will wear off the initial shock of emotions and give you a chance to make a well-thought-out decision.
2. Take control of your thoughts
We spend most of our day talking to ourselves. Again, the thoughts of how we could have countered in a given situation, how it would have been better to have spoken, etc. often go on in our minds. It sounds funny, but it is true.
The most important thing is that these thoughts that are going on in our privacy without our own knowledge are what make our personality. This is one of the major reasons why confident people succeed in life. In the same way, in a moment of anger, pride on stress, we express our accumulated pain. So, self- control requires us to consciously learn to control our thoughts. Initially it seems difficult, but with time you will be able to grasp the matter.
3. Talk to someone you trust
All our feelings like anger, sadness, laughter, joy, depression etc. affect the people close to us. How we behave in certain situations, what things break our self-control, or what activities we are happiest with, all these depend on our emotional fluctuations.
So the best way to understand yourself is to discuss it openly with someone close to you.
This will give you an idea about your weaknesses. In addition, if we try to control our thoughts indiscriminately, they sometimes explode. For this reason, if you can share your feelings with someone sometimes, the emotional turmoil will be reduced. And that can subsequently help you live a mentally healthy life.
If there is no opportunity to discuss with family or friends, feel free to seek help from a professional, And that's what it should be. Because, your man's mentality can change at any time.
4. Don't jump to conclusions
Our brain likes to jump to conclusions about anything as quickly as possible. As, a result, we believe anything we hear about others very quickly, without any kind of verification. And we end everything by taking the last word of someone's own mouth. These ideas later guide our behaviour.
So, try to arouse curiosity in yourself. Don't believe anything you hear about someone. Try to understand the situation or the person from his point of view, listen to what he has to say, then decide. You will be free from misunderstandings.
