3 tips on how to get rid of food addiction

Weight loss has current experience, developed 3 simple tips that can help you to get rid of your addiction to food, and develop normal and healthy eating habits. It is scientifically proven that eating and emotions are connected, and that eating can cause a feeling of well-being and a state of happiness.

If we compare this to how drug users describe the “kick” they get when taking their drugs, it is the exact same feeling they describe. Although the things that drug addicts feel are at much higher levels than in food, it is still the same mechanisms that are at work when we talk about food addiction.

Food addicts tend to find refuge and comfort in eating, and in many cases, it becomes a subconscious act. Getting rid of the addiction can be very difficult for some, and often they fall back into their addiction because going cold turkey is simply too hard and stressful.

Failing to do something often causes a person to experience a lowered self-esteem and sadness. When feeling these two things, eating often feels like a relief and good comfort, and the food addict actually ends up even more addicted than when they began their cold turkey attempt.

So how can you get rid of an eating addiction, without feeling like going cold turkey, and without failing your attempt? The trick is not to focus on not eating, but instead to focus on changing your habits and preventing the “fake” hunger before it even occurs.

Tip 1.

Start by writing down your hunger periods for 1 week. By hunger periods, I mean each time you feel hungry. At the end of the week, you should have a pretty good overview of which periods during that day are “dangerous” for you.

Now you have a powerful tool against the fake hunger, the power of foresight! Now you can prevent yourself from reaching the hunger point by simply eating a little fruit and drinking some water, 30 – 15 minutes before the time that you usually get hungry.

If you do get hungry in between meals, then you should only eat so-called “allowed” foods, such as fresh carrots, orange beats, apple beats, melons and so on. And, of course, plenty of water!

Tip 2.

Inactivity and boredom promote hunger. So you should make sure to be active throughout the day. I.e. make sure you are busy with something (other than watching TV or playing computer games) around the critical periods of the day.

If possible, go for a walk or go jogging, as it can actually reduce the fake hunger feeling.

Tip 3.

Never go shopping or anywhere near food stores when you feel hungry. Before you go out shopping for food or anything else for that matter, make sure that you are not hungry (by eating fruits and drinking water).

If you are not hungry, you are less likely to get tempted by snacks and such. Also, if you go shopping for food, you should make a list before you leave home. Using a shopping list will prevent unhealthy impulse purchases.
