For most people, buying a new computer is not as stressful as buying a new car. Moreover it should not be expensive. If you're like most people and you have a limited budget to buy a computer, you should try to get as many computers as possible for your money.
Here are 3 easy ways to save money when buying a new computer:
1) Shop for the best deal.
Seems clear enough. But what most people do not know is that you do not need a fast, expensive computer to have the most "extras". In fact, if you are already using an old computer, even the less expensive new computer will be a big upgrade. If you do not know much about computers, you can learn a lot by shopping. Ask a lot of questions, compare prices, compare features, and then find the best price. Shop at your local electronics store and look for the best deals online. You will be amazed at how much money you can save by shopping!
2) Install your own "extras"
Many of the computers you find in stores already have a lot of additional software pre-installed. While it's convenient, it's not always the best way to save money. Additionally, even though these extra items look so pretty, you don’t always need them. You can often find better deals by shopping separately for your own software attachments (word processor, anti-virus, popup blocker, spyware removal, games, etc.). And you can get some of these for free. So before you buy a "fully loaded" computer, ask yourself if you really need all the extra stuff, and then shop around to see if you're able to buy a smaller computer - and get the extra amount yourself for very little. Do it!
3) Do not purchase an extended warranty
If you are not a computer "techie", extended warranties offered by computer retailers often seem like a good idea. After all, who wants to bother to pay for the service after you buy a computer. But keep in mind that most computers come with warranties and most computer problems occur early (when you still have the warranty running) or much later (when buying a new computer is cheaper). Technology is changing so fast these days. So consider whether the increased cost of the extended warranty is worth it. And, if you really think you need an extended warranty, ask them to buy it for a lower price. Not all retailers negotiate warranties, but some do. And whether you buy an extended warranty or not, make sure you back up all your files from time to time!
If you have an unlimited budget, consider yourself lucky. And if you are trading in computers, make sure you get what you want while trying to keep the price low. At any cost, it is not advisable to buy an item that does not fit your needs.
