Leo baekeland, who discover fully synthetic plastic from petroleum sub products in 1907.at that time, plastic is a great invention due to that property and cheap in price. Plastic is a polymer product which extracted from petroleum substrates, for example, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride.it was very important material because of that properties like,
Water insolubility,
Light weight
Elasticity
Resistance to sunlight
Flexibility & strong (not easily breakable)
Antimicrobial, antifungal properties
Transparency
After Second World War use of plastics is increase in different fields for example, households, biomedical equipment’s, vaccine bottles, syrup bottles, and packaging. Before 19’s transportation of materials in wooden, glass, metal carriers, there was a chance to materials like food, fluid can be spoiled and get damaged. Wooden, glass and metals are very costly and hard to shape and molds.
When I’m started finding that how much of plastic we used in day to day life, then I found that in the morning the milk, bread & butter we bought from market which covered from plastic material. Vegetables and fruits also contains in polythene bags which are single used plastic, also shampoo bottles, hair oil products, cough syrup bottles, medicine covers, mobile phone covers, combs, hairbands, fans, watches, chairs, earphones these all are made from different kind of plastics. Even when I’m started writing then I found that the pen I was used that is also made from plastic. The all study items like pen, markers, compass box and makeup kits, mascara, eyeliners all the materials are made from plastic and we know that after use we throw it and that are non-recyclable products. After survey of my home I found that every product which I was used in my daily life is more or less made from plastics. I found that different kinds of plastics are there thin plastics polythene, thick plastics polybenzylechloride, (PVC) polyvineylechloride used for pipes hard resistance plastic. Some are recyclable but not all and government published advisory which plastic recyclable or not. As we know that plastic cannot be destroyed naturally ,that’s why we called as a “disaster” and we used it a lot more in amount in the recent news waste plastic weights as same as planet earth weight in 2030 so it is a very big issues and we have to solve it as soon as possible.
Case study: - I found one case from daily routine life, household waste and kitchen waste into the polythene bags and throw out from society near to AMC container, cattle’s and dogs bought in their mouths with food that plastics also engulfed, sometime this micro plastics stuck inside of their stomach and intestine. And suffer from food poisoning in many cases they die.
How we overcome from this disaster?
“Zero waste management” in this theory produces less waste as many as possible, for households and industries too.
Enhance use of bio plastics – which is degradable plastic, made from biomass and sago starch, maize starch.
Try to buy multiple used plastic materials, not using single used and throw materials ex: - used and throw pens replace with refill pens and use palatable pencils.
Replace plastic with other materials like wood, metal, fibers, ex: -plastic bottle replace with metal bottles, polythene replace with cotton or fiber bags. Use a recyclable shoes which made from fabric, rubber bands replace with fabric and cotton bands.
By this small things can change the world, we have to be more aware and followed disciplined manner to use plastic in daily life. it are duty to manage our lifestyle and make plastic free world.
What should government take actions against plastic pollution?
Government should strictly ban on the single used plastic (2019) ex:-polythene bags, toys.
Restriction on plastic products, plastic buckets etc.
Promotes bio plastics- industries and entrepreneurs
Loans for fiber, cotton, wool industries, to enhance their use for cotton bags.
Plastic waste management policies
Promote new ideas like Fuel from plastics, cardboard pens.
Plastics packages and bottles used to make brick walls, and roads. Use microplastics in constructions.
By this all the things we can save our environment and many lives overcome from this disaster.
